  1. Welcome to Archivers v 4.5!
  2.  
  3. New in Version 4.5:
  4. We have added a directory comparison function (in the Options menu)
  5. which can compare a working directory and a backup directory and
  6. automatically update the files that have been changed.  We have
  7. also added a user-defined text editor and graphics viewer which 
  8. you can add to the Editors or Viewer menus for viewing text and
  9. graphics files. 
  10.  
  11. Archivers provides you with a quick, intuitive Windows interface 
  12. for using the file compression programs ZIP, ARJ, LZH and 
  13. Microsoft's Compress and Expand programs.  The Archivers window 
  14. is laid out with a Source and a Target directory visible on your 
  15. screen.  This allows you to see and control all of the Archivers 
  16. functions.  The Archivers menus provide quick access to all of the 
  17. uncompression and compression commands, and, for added speed, 
  18. Archivers also provides an "instant menu" which can be accessed 
  19. anywhere in the Archivers window by clicking on your right mouse 
  20. button and provides you with instant access to the more frequently 
  21. used menu items.  Archivers also offers the ability to view, extract 
  22. or delete individual files within your Zip, Lzh and Arj files before 
  23. uncompressing them.

  25. And Archivers does not limit itself to file compression and 
  26. uncompression.  It also offers a complete file management system; 
  27. allowing you to create directories, delete directories, copy and 
  28. move files, search for files, view and execute files, and backup 
  29. system files - all directly from the Archivers window.  By double 
  30. clicking on files, you can also view text files, BMP files and GIF 
  31. files, as well as execute EXE files.

  33. To load Archivers onto your system, go to the File menu of your
  34. Windows Program Manager and choose Run.  Choose the Archivers
  35. setup.exe file from the directory or disk and click on OK.  The
  36. setup program will load all the necessary files onto your system
  37. and create a Windows program group for Archivers.

  39. In order for this program to run properly, you will also need to 
  40. have the the following archiving utilities fully extracted in a 
  41. directory which is located in your path:

  43. For the PKZip program,PKZ204G.EXE; 
  44. For the ARJ program, ARJ239a.EXE or ARJ250.EXE (most recent versions); 
  45. For the LHA program, LHA212.EXE.
  46. (the EXE filename may depend on the version of the program.).

  48. From PKZ204g.exe, Archivers uses Pkzip.exe, Pkunzip.exe, Pkzipfix.exe, 
  49. and Zip2exe.exe. 
  50. From Arj239a.exe all you will need is Arj.exe. 
  51. From Lha212.exe lha.exe is all that is needed.

  53. Please ensure these files are in your path.  These files are not 
  54. furnished as part of the Archivers Program.  They can be obtained
  55. from most online services or BBSs.

  57. You also need to have the VBRUN300.DLL file in your 
  58. Windows\System directory in order for Archivers to run properly.

  60. After unzipping the archiver.zip file, you should see the following
  61. files:

  85. Setup will install the .pif  files into your Windows
  86. directory, along with the compress and expand .exe files.  All .dll 
  87. and .vbx files will be installed into your windows\system directory.
  88. And the setup program will create an Archivers directory which will
  89. contain the archiver .exe and .hlp files along with the readme.wri.
  90. If you ever want to uninstall Archivers, all you need to do is remove
  91. all of these files from your system.  No changes are made to your
  92. autoexec.bat file or any .ini file on your system.

  94. Archivers may be distributed freely, as long as no fee is charged 
  95. for the distribution and all of the files listed above are included
  96. with the program, but it may in no way be bundled with or included 
  97. into another program without obtaining prior written permission 
  98. from the author.
